Jochen in Las Americas

Saturday 10th of February: big swell and "Calima"- wind in Las Americas. The Calima blows side offshore and strong enough for 4,5m².  These are the best wavesailing- conditions, Tenerife can offer. As this wind only blows a cupple of days a year, the whole El Médano windsurfing- scene was there, to enjoy some down- the- line waveriding in the clean swell of Las Americas.

Check out this wave!

As you can see on the pictures, the conditions have not only been good for Windsurfers. Kiteboarding- pro Mark Shinn lately has been more in the air, than on his feet, and surfers still find waves at nearly all the famous spots of the island.

Partytime: the guys from "Big- Sexy- Pictures"- video productions came to Tenerife, to get some footage for their new video- project. After one week of filming in perfect conditions, they presented a roughcut of the new images in the local bar "Jeip". Lots of people came to enjoy action and beer.

... and relaxing

The wind didn't only blow in Las Americas. In El Mèdano the Trade Wind some days entered for 4m² and smaller, so that Mike had some possibilities to show his (board's) teath. One day, when even the tall guys were on 3.7m², Mark Shinn was the only one, who dared to go out kiteboarding. Fully powered up on his 5.5m² Naish- Kite he went for some really sick jumps!

Waves, waves, waves... Las Americas is really busy this winter: almost daily there has been some swell to ride. Don't get mistaken by the left picture: although the water is not really cold, you should at least wear a shorty- the girl on the pic must be tougher, then the majority of all male surfers!
