There have been
some days with strong southern winds in El Medano. This means flatwater-
sailing in the bay (good to practice freestyle, but no wave at all). Then,
a few days ago the message from the north of the island: the waves in Bajamar
break masthigh and the wind blows strong enough for 4.5 m²- time to
rip (for spot info click here)! |

As you can see
on the picture, entering into the water is everything but comfortable.
The shorebreak crashes right onto sharp lava- rocks, and there is no other
possibility than waiting for a "calm" moment between the sets, to jump
from the rocks into the sea. Once you're in the water, the wind is extremly
gusty and even if it blows outside for 4 m², near the beach it's hardly
possible to waterstart - and you're still lying in front of the rocks!
Getting back to the beach is even worse (strong currents). Never go out
here without someone, who already has experience with the spot!! |

Bird's- eye view
on the Punta del Hidalgo landscape. While the south of the island looks
like a desert, the north is green and wild. The steep cliffs and the powerfull
Atlantic- waves create an almost mystic atmosphere, demanding respect and
caution. |

This
aerial has been taken in "Fitenia", L.A.'s Windsurfing- spot. The waves
here normally are a bit smaller than at "Conquistador", but as you see
on the pic, the quality ain't that bad! |
